The name comes from the company Mobipocket Reader, which Amazon owned from 2005-2016, at which point Amazon shut it down. MOBIs have a much larger file size than EPUBs. MOBI eBooks use XHTML and can include Javascript. A MOBI file is a file extension designed for eBooks, but mostly on Amazon Kindle devices.The EPUB was developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) in 2007, replacing the OEBPS. Unlike MOBIs, EPUB eBooks can be read by most devices, including Android mobile phones and Sony eReaders. ![]() It is the universal gold standard for eBook publishing.
